Live, Love, Learn: Ski Lessons

A while back, I went skiing with friends. It was basically my first time, so I started by taking a lesson.

The instructor told me that he would have me skiing down the mountain before the lesson was over. “Um, no, that’s not going to happen.”

After one hour, he said, “It’s time to go to the top. You can do it. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

I gave him a look.

“I know you can do it. You just need some confidence.”

“Fine.” I didn’t think I could do it. I was scared, but because he had confidence in me, I decided to trust him.

So he grabbed my hand, we jumped on the ski lift (first time on a ski lift) and we were headed to the top.

We slowly skied down the mountain. I didn’t fall.

We had enough time for one more run before my lesson was over. We went a little faster the second time, I didn’t fall.

I skied that mountain two more times with my friends. It’s hard to explain how amazing I felt that day, and I learned a couple of things about myself.

1 – Learning, lessons, knowing how to do something the right way, is important. If I had skipped the lesson, I wouldn’t have been as successful, and I probably would have decided that skiing wasn’t for me.

2 – I need to have more confidence in myself. I need to take chances. I want to stop being afraid of failing. I don’t want to miss out on life/living just because of a little fear.

I hope you live your life to the fullest… don’t let fear hold you back. 🙂
