Today’s Challenge: If you can take a break from something you love, do it!
I had such a wonderful week! I missed blogging and some of the social media, but taking a week break was very good for me. I spring-cleaned my house. I caught up on home repairs and maintenance. I started reading a fascinating book. I solved the Rubik’s Cube. I took longer walks with my now cancer-free dog. I ran errands that I had neglected. I tied up loose ends on a couple personal issues. I watched a couple of movies. I started daily stretching and tried meditating–the breathing part. I worked on my new manuscript…
Because of this week, I’ve decided to make a few changes with my social media. I’m going to turn my two Facebook accounts into one… that will take some time, but I think it will be good for me. I’ve also decided to change the way I tweet. Instead of the mainly random tweets, I will work on finding a clearer direction–I have some ideas, so I’ll test a few. My Blog, Facebook posts and Pinterest will all posts as tweets, too. I’m not making any major changes with my blog. 🙂
If you have any pointers on how you improved your relationship with social media, I’d love love love to hear about it.
So nice to be back. I’ve missed everybody’s comments and blogs. 🙂
Good for you, Becky. Knowing when you need that break is important, having the courage to take it perhaps the most important. Kudos to you!!!

Thank you. The break was so good for me that I might take one a couple times a year. 🙂

I was just talking to my husband about that…once or twice a year to just get away from it all! Great idea!

Sure was good for me! I think next time, I’m going to do a one week break from TV, or my cell phone… 🙂

Sometimes, Becky, that is a true “vacation!” Enjoy ‘real life’ before all of technology. When do we ever get the chance? Bless you.

Missed you, reminding me each day of just what I as thinking (!) but I’m glad you took break – I’ll have mine later this spring, several in fact as I toddle off to reunions!

Sadly this is something I am still learning. Social media can be a huge time suck and take time away from writing or reading. Over the last month, I have tried to balance that time better and it appears to be working. If possible, I will write a blog during the week then post it over the weekend, leaving my weekend mornings for writing. I think it’s working (word count moving again).

You are so right about social media being a time suck. I have neglected my (book)reading and writing time. 😦 I’m still trying to find my balance, but I think the break helped me come up with a better plan. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂

Thank you. I’ll check it out. I think my problem with facebook is that I have a fan page and a personal page… I need to merge them into one. I’m researching the best way to go about this… any thoughts? 🙂

I have a fan page as well with about 4500 people on it. But I just don’t have time at the moment to manage it. So I basically just neglect it and use my main profile. Oh the joys of social media. I don’t know anyway to merge other than statuses that tell people to follow the other profile. But if you have fans in the first place, that’s a good problem!

You’re right, I am lucky! 🙂 At first I thought I would turn my personal page into a fan page and then merge the two pages (seems that can be done as long as the fan pages are similar) I’m not sure I like the idea of only having a fan page… I don’t know the pros and cons. But for now I’ve decided to post my blog to my fan page, so there is activity, and mainly use my personal page. I hope this change makes my social media life easier and more fun… Plus, I can always change my mind. 🙂

The best thing I read in this post is that your dog is now cancer-free. Yay!
Sometimes the best change is simply taking a break. It sounds like it really worked for you and you certainly got a lot done!! Impressive. Maybe something I should also consider at some point 😉

Most of my life is spend in front of the computer on a typical day. It was amazing to stay away… my life opened up and I was able to focus on neglected parts of me, my home, my dog, my life. Very good for me!
Yes!!!! My baby is cancer free and her clown-like personality has returned. I’m staying realistic but also optimistic, and we have been on wonderful long walks together… this will continue!!! 🙂
